National Petroleum Committee of Serbia - World Petroleum Council

Almaty, October 2022 - At the invitation of the World Petroleum Council, a delegation of the National Petroleum Committee of Serbia attended the regular Assembly of this prestigious international organization in Kazakhstan, held as part of the 7th WPC Youth Forum in Almaty. The goal of this event, which gathered over 700 delegates and 112 speakers from 37 countries, was expanding discussions around energy transition and adoption of sustainable technologies.

The WPC Youth Forum is a global platform for dialogue that brings together young professionals from different countries in order to search for new approaches to facilitate changes in the energy sector "Young professionals and scientists can make a significant contribution to the development of the energy sector of the new millennium", emphasized the President of the World Petroleum Council, Pedro Miras Salamanca, at the opening of the 7th WPC Youth Forum.

As part of the forum, a series of plenary sessions and round tables were held to discuss issues of decarbonization, global energy security, the petrochemical industry, as well as international contribution to achieving energy transition.

Among the honorary guests of the forum were leaders of the largest Kazakhstan and foreign oil and gas companies, heads of the country's leading universities, prominent industry experts, representatives of committees of member countries who discussed the prospects and future challenges for the global oil and gas industry.

Launched this year under the theme "Energy Transition: Dialogue of Generations", the forum focused on three main thematic blocks: innovative leadership, energy and society, and sustainable technologies.

The highlight of the event was certainly the participation of the delegation of the National Petroleum Committee of Serbia in the work of the WPC Assembly, which at this session adopted the strategic development plan until 2027, which was presented by the President of the World Petroleum Council, Pedro Miras Salamanca, and the Director General of this organization, Piers Rimer.

At the same time, several important meetings of the governing bodies of the World Petroleum Council were held in Almaty.

As a representative of the Committee from Serbia, Senka Walid, Secretary General of the NPCS and Head of the Sector for Market Analysis and Pricing, on this occasion assessed that the adopted strategic development plan of the World Petroleum Council is an extremely important document that laid the foundations for further development of the organization in the next five years. "At the same time, I had the opportunity to give my contribution at the meeting of the Congress Program Committee, which is being prepared for next year. This most prestigious event in the field of oil and gas in the world will be held in Calgary in 2023 ( www.24wpc.com), and Serbia and our Committee are directly participating in the organization of its program" Senka pointed out.

Danijela Tadić, Manager of Relations with Oil and Gas Associations, in charge of NPCS relations with the World Petroleum Council, considers that this event provides vast opportunities for networking with peers, global professionals, representatives of the government sector and global companies.

The National Petroleum Committee of Serbia also supported the proposal that Saudi Arabia be the host country of the World Petroleum Congress in 2026 in Riyadh.

Jelena Živić, an expert on cooperation with institutions abroad, represented the Young Professionals Committee of the NPCS and in addition to participating in all parts of the forum and panel discussions, she also attended the cultural part of the program: organized visits to the Kazakhstan-British Technical University, the Kasteev State Museum of Arts, and the Almaty Botanical Garden. She especially points out that the members of the Young Professionals Committees of the National Committees of other countries, especially - Kazakhstan, Turkey and Oman, expressed their desire to visit the National Petroleum Committee of Serbia and Belgrade.

The World Petroleum Council, which Serbia joined as a member in 2011, is a non-profit organization accredited by the United Nations that gathers around 60 countries of the world that produce and consume 90 percent of the world's oil and gas reserves, in order to promote dialogue on responsible production and use of global energy resources.
