WASTEOILFREE project: Waste oils management peer review visit to Czech Republic

In the framework of the CEI KEP Italy project „Integrated Waste-Oils Management System - Transfer of Best Practices for Safe, Sustainable and Eco-friendly Transport in Serbia (WASTEOILFREE)“ delegation of representatives of Serbian Ministry of Environment Protection , Ministry of Mining and Energy , Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure , Port Governance Agency of Serbia , National Petroleum Committee of Serbia and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Belgrade participated in a three-day peer review visit to the competent Czech institutions.

The peer review visit agenda was defined in accordance with the topics of highest interest that have been identified during know-how provider’s screening visit in March and first capacity building workshop held in Belgrade in April.

As part of the visit programme, representatives of leading Czech companies dealing with waste oils collection, management and analysisAvista Oil s.r.o. and Trifoservis presented their activities and competences related to appropriate waste oils collection, treatment and re-refining process, as well as the specific procedures linked to tribological lab-analysis of waste oils and lubricants. These presentations have attracted great interest of Serbian beneficiaries.

During the second day of a peer-review visit the representatives of competent Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade and Ministry of Environment held presentation of relevant national and EU legislation in the waste oils management field, with the comparative legislation analysis of Czech Republic and neighboring EU member states (Slovakia and Austria). The presentation was followed by a discussion where numerous questions of interest were raised.

In relation to one of the major project goals – the transfer of best EU practical procedures and experience in the area of waste oils collection and handling, third day of study visit was dedicated to the meeting with representative of the company ČEPRO who presented the practical functioning of waste oils and waste water collection system in the city of Prague. The peer review visit programme ended with a site-visit to the service center for touristic and commercial boats on Vltava river. The participants from Czech Republic and Serbia agreed that there is a solid ground for further development of waste oils management system in Serbia modeled on the best EU and Czech practices identified during this peer-review visit.

WASTEOILFREE project will continue with a second know-how transfer workshop to be held in October 2018 in Belgrade, during which the main conclusions and recommendations in direction of improvement of Serbian waste oils management system will be presented by the Czech know-how providers
